Education Program
Safe Routes to Schools provides a series of robust classes designed to teach students safe practices for walking and biking. Our curriculum is aligned with the Health Education Content Standards for California and is designed with age-appropriate development in mind.
Safe Routes’ classes in Marin are taught by League Certified Instructors – the gold standard for bicycle education in the U.S.
The standard two-part classes are customarily taught during the school day on school campuses. An estimated 10,000 students receive the pedestrian and bicycle safety education annually. Schools are therefore encouraged to schedule classes regularly and early in the year to ensure that grades are not missed in the progressive series. If rain or other factors cause classes to be cancelled, Safe Routes will work with school sites to try to fit them back in.
